KHS Performs at Yuwa Nyinda Dream Academy

The Yuwa Nyinda Dream Academy held a festival over Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 to engage and inspire local youth.

Organised by Learning the Macleay, the event was derived from conversations across the Macleay Valley.

The conversations identified that young people had lost the ability to dream as they are caught up in a range of social issues.

The two-day event aimed to give young people and the community the opportunity to engage with a wide range of participating individuals and organisations.

As part of Dreamfest there was a free skateboard workshop hosted by Songline Skateboards, which is owned by a local Dunghutti man. He promotes his business as aiming to "spread positivity and love through skateboarding to communities all over, while keeping culture strong"

Kieran Reilly and a talented bunch of skateboarders gave out a skateboard to kids from 12-17 years of age. Several KHS students participated in this workshop from 3:30-6:30pm. Young people were also given the opportunity to be taught how to skate and learn to do tricks from professional skaters. Young people were given a skateboard and free items were thrown out to all in the crowd at the end of the night.
