The End of Term 3

Our Grade 5/6 students (and teachers) have had a huge couple of weeks.

Footy Colours Day was a highlight for many students, which saw the teachers walk away with another win in the Grade 6 vs Teachers footy match.

Our Grade 5/6 Camp was a great success! Our students were very respectful throughout all of our excursion experiences, and we hope they have learnt alot, had fun and made lifelong memories with their friends.

An Overview of our First 2 Weeks of Learning in Term 4

In Reading, our students will continue with our whole class novel, Boy Overboard. Through the reading on this text, we will explore interesting vocabulary, sentence level structures and comprehension questions.

In Writing, we will divide our weeks into two sections. Within the first section we will start our narrative unit, where we will explore the genre of science fiction. Throughout this unit, we will also read the text 'The Wild Robot', to gain a deeper insight into analysing the elements of a narrative within the context of a science fiction novel. Students will then use this knowledge to implement the writing strategies into their own piece of writing.

In Mathematics, our weeks are broken into 2 sections. On Mondays and Fridays, we focus on an Applied area of Mathematics and on Wednesdays and Thursdays, our students move into 'fluid groups' to develop their Mathematical understanding, at their individual point of need in the curriculum. In Weeks 1 & 2, our Fluid Groups will focus on Geometric Reasoning. We will continue this focus throughout Weeks 1 to 4.

In STEAM, our Grade 5s will start learning about Robotics, whilst building a basic bot and creating coding to move around a set track. Our Grade 6s will start their Digital Design unit, where they will design and print using our 3D printer.

In Topic, we will be examining economics and business concepts. In the first two weeks of term, we will look at what it means to be a consumer and the difference between a 'want and a need'.

Term 3 School Holidays

We would like to thank our students for a fantastic Term 3. We have been impressed with the quality of work our students have been producing, and how they have implemented our classroom expectations. We know this will hold them in good stead for our final term this year. We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing school holiday break.
