Year 3/4
Level Newsletter
Wow, Term 3 has finished! It’s hard to believe that we are already three quarters of our way through the school year. We have had a great term, and the last fortnight has been no exception.
Firstly, a huge congratulations to our Victorian State School Spectacular students who performed at John Cain Arena. Our SPS students represented us incredibly well. We are all so incredibly proud of all the VSSS participants, and we want to thank them for learning their moves, for being enthusiastic, for being lifelong learners, for taking risks and, most of all, for being the kind, friendly and respectful people that they are. Superstars – all of you!
On Monday afternoon, we shared our narratives with parents, special friends and teachers, reflecting on the experiences and lessons from our Narrative Writing unit. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our writing growth, and we are grateful to our visitors for joining us and participating in our shared reading time.
Tuesday saw us enjoying the beautiful sunshine as the 3/4 cohort participated in free choice Level Sport. The students particularly enjoyed playing basketball, cricket, tennis and volleyball outside.
On Wednesday, some of our students attended Knox Division Athletics, and a big "well done" to those who took part! Then, on the last day of term, we had fun dressing in our favourite footy or sports colours, celebrating the end of term and sharing our excitement for the upcoming games.
We wish you all a restful and safe school holiday and will see all students back on 7th of October. Also a reminder that, as per our Sun Smart Policy, "children are required to wear a sun smart hat that protects the face, neck and ears whenever they are outside" and this will begin from Term 4.
Lastly, the school holidays are a great opportunity to allow your child to practise getting ready for school camp. Some ideas that can support your child in developing a camp confidence can be talking about camp positively, practising sleepovers and independence skills and - lastly - prepare, make lists and pack together.

Jumping Squares
In this problem it is not the squares that jump, you do the jumping! The idea is to go round the track in as few jumps as possible. This activity can be done alone or with a friend. The aim is to get to the end of the track in as few jumps as possible.
The numbers on each square are the number of squares that you can jump forwards or backwards when you are on that square. On the 'Start' square, you can jump forwards 1 or 3 squares for your first jump. If you land on a square with 1 and 4 on it, you can jump forwards or backwards either 1 or 4 squares.
If the square has 0 and 0 on it, you can't jump at all. You have to go right back to the beginning and start again!
Have a few tries at getting from the 'Start' square to the 'End' square by making these jumps. How could you count the number of jumps you are making?
What is the least number of jumps you can make to get round the whole track? Which squares do you need to land on?
