Kinder/Year 1
In English, we have begun to explore food around the world and writing procedural texts for how to cook and make things. Last week we made mooncakes; a traditional Chinese food eaten at the Mid-Autumn harvest festival or Moon festival in Sept/Oct.
ENE-CWT-01: A student creates written texts that include at least 2 related ideas and correct simple sentences.
EN1-CWT-01: A student plans, creates and revises texts written for different purposes, including paragraphs, using knowledge of vocabulary, text features and sentence structure.
In Maths this term, K1 have been immersed in lots of measuring of 3D objects. We have learned that to be successful, you need to consider appropriate units for measuring, recording the number of units needed, and what attribute you are measuring. We have found that you can measure an object’s height/length, weight, area of its base, volume and around it.
We then explored the problem of measuring the entire surface area of a 3D object by creating a net and laying it flat to cover. In the process, some of us realised we could iterate one unit or draw an array to help find the number of units required to find the area.
MAE-GM-02: A student describes and compares lengths.
MAE-2DS-02: A student describes and compares areas of similar shapes.
MAE-3DS-02: A student describes and compares volumes.
MAE-NSM-01: A student describes and compares the masses of objects.
MA1-GM-02: A student measures, records, compares and estimates lengths and distances using uniform informal units, as well as metres and centimetres.
MA1-2DS-02: A student measures and compares areas using uniform informal units in rows and columns.
MA1-3DS-02: A student measures, records, compares and estimates internal volumes (capacities) and volumes using uniform informal units.
MA1-NSM-01: A student measures, records, compares and estimates the masses of objects using uniform informal units.
