School Council Update
Last week the SKiPPS School Council held its final meeting for Term 3. The agenda provided us with a wonderful reminder of the huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes each term to help make our school so special.
SKiPPS’ teachers invest many hours outside the classroom to ensure lesson content is current, engaging and inspiring. They continuously seek to upskill by attending workshops, taking part in Communities of Practice, and analysing student data so they can do their best to support the learning and wellbeing of every child at our school.
Meanwhile parents and carers volunteer their time in classrooms and on excursions, or by running sport sessions or even the school orchestra. Others give up their time to coordinate the Term 3 school lunch offerings of Sushi Friday and Winter Soup, or create magical moments like the Fathers’ and Special Persons’ Day breakfast.
At our latest meeting Councillors received an update on classroom and curriculum planning for the 2025 school year. We were also briefed on Council’s role and responsibilities in ensuring Victoria’s Child Safe Standards are embedded and adhered to in every aspect of the school’s operations.
After receiving a letter from a concerned parent, School Councillors agreed to petition the City of Port Phillip to provide another School Crossing Supervisor at the corner of Princes and Fitzroy Streets. We will keep families updated on our progress.
We also discussed the various works either in progress or in the final stages of planning to upgrade facilities at our school. The Victorian School Building Authority is finalising designs to refit the kitchen garden room in time for the new school year, the quadrangle will be resurfaced during the upcoming September school holidays and details of the highly anticipated basketball court upgrade are almost confirmed.
School Council meetings are open to all parents and carers to attend. You can join us at the next meeting, which will be held in the staffroom from 6.30pm on Wednesday 30th October.
