Feast Day St Teresa of Kolkata

5 September

Happiness

May, today, there be peace within you.

May you trust God, that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities, that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received,

and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing that you are a child of God.

Let His presence settle into your bones,

and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance,

and to bask in the sun.

It is there for each and every one of you

St Teresa of Kolkata …. Pray for us

At this time, we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Kolkata, who died on 5 September, 1997 at the age of 87. Mother Teresa was born Gonxha Agnes Bojaxhiu on 27 August, 1910 in Skopje (now in Macedonia), of ethnic Albanian parents. Two decades before her beatification in 2003, the isolated People’s Republic of Albania was the world’s only declared atheistic state and anything to do with religion was systematically and brutally obliterated.

St Teresa, known in India as the 'Saint of the Gutter', established the Missionaries of Charity in 1950 and was awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She used the prize money for the benefit of the poorest of the poor in India. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II on World Mission Day 19 October, 2003 and canonised on 4 September 2016 by Pope Francis.

St Teresa once said:

'There are many places in the world where people die of hunger. Many have died in my arms. We can give these poor people a plate of rice and we can clothe them and make a home for them, but it is very difficult to remove the hunger they have for love. The greatest joy for me is to see that a person dies in love knowing that God loves them.'

Gracious and eternal God, by your grace Mother Teresa of Calcutta, kindled with the fire of your love, became a burning and shining light in your Church; inflame us with the same spirit of discipline and love that we may always walk before you as children of light; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

As we prepare to bid farewell to Year 12, I hope and pray that St Pius X College has been a place where every student has found happiness and where each soul has felt the freedom to sing, dance, and bask in the sunlight. May they carry these experiences with them as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.

Farewell to Seniors Twilight Concert

What an incredible evening that showcased the wide range of musical talents from our gifted students. From the very start, the staging, lighting, and enthusiastic audience set the tone for a memorable night filled with performances by our ensembles, guitarists, bands, and percussionists. The audience was left in awe by the outstanding quality of all the groups. Congratulations to our music staff, Mr Brendan Jones and Mr Stephen Cummins, and to our talented tutors: Mrs Stella Talati, Mr Ian Talati, Mr Geoff Power, Ms Laura Power, Mr Shane Cranney, and Mr David Sismey.

A special thank you and congratulations to Mr Andrew Saar, Coordinator of Music Ensembles, for his preparation of such a diverse range of performances, and to Mrs Annabel Westhoff for her dedication to excellence as the Leader of Learning for Performing Arts. It was a wonderful experience for all involved. Thank you also to Mr Matthew Stearn for his heartfelt words in recognising and congratulating the Year 12 students for their contributions to the College’s music program.

Celebration of Cocurricular at the College Colour Awards

The College Colour Awards held on Tuesday, 10 September, was yet another fantastic celebration of the dedication shown by so many outstanding young men to the College’s cocurricular program. This significant assembly highlighted various aspects of our cocurricular activities. A special thanks goes to Mr Matthew Stearn for his leadership in recognising the contributions of our remarkable students. Receiving a Silver or Gold award is a true testament to the individuals who have upheld the proud traditions of St Pius X College. Appreciation is also due to all the coaches and convenors of our cocurricular programs for their passion and commitment. Special thanks to Ms Merryn Dodd for her excellent administration of the records and awards for this prestigious event.

The Lights, Camera, Pius! Film Festival

Once again, we were treated to an innovative and creative Film Festival. Hoyts Theatre was packed with over 200 students, all eager to witness the imagination of their peers. The audience was not disappointed, as each short film captivated and showcased the incredible artistic talent of so many young men. A special thanks to Ms Doyle and the Pius Film Festival Committee for providing this fantastic opportunity to support our aspiring filmmakers and actors. Thank you also to all the students who submitted films. We look forward to next year's festival, where the standard continues to rise, with the bar already set very high.

SPX Football Club Social Evening – Saturday 14 September

I am looking forward to the SPX Football Club Evening on Saturday, especially hearing from two legends of football, Robbie Slater and David Mitchell (both former Socceroos).  Hope to see many of our football community at the social evening.

Year 12 Graduation

As Year 12 nears the end of their time at St Pius X College, preparations for Graduation Week are progressing well. During my message to the students on Wednesday morning, I reminded them that Graduation Week is not only a significant milestone for them, but also an emotional moment for their parents, who have supported them through 13 years of education. It’s crucial that students stay focused, maintain positive relationships with their teachers and peers, and finish their schooling on a high note as proud St Pius X students.  Below is a timeline of the events for Tuesday, 24 September, and Wednesday, 25 September.   Families will be able to view the College Farewell as it will be live streamed.
