Year 8 Science
In Year 8 science, students have been learning about the processes through which sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks are formed. This unit has given students the opportunity to understand at a deeper level the processes by which the earth forms new materials, and how formation shapes the ways rocks are utilised in our society.
On Thursday 12th September, our Year 8 students had the opportunity to learn from an expert in the field: retired geologist Roger Poltock. Roger has worked in South-East Asia and South America studying rock formation. Roger was able to share part of his journey to becoming a geologist, as well as interesting information about local Tasmanian landscapes such as Fossil Bluff, Cradle Mountain and Freycinet National Park. Roger provided some local rock samples which students were able to categorise into sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous. It was fantastic for students to be able to see and analyse rock samples from our local environment. We thank Roger for using his time and expertise to encourage and teach our Year 8 students with his experience.
Casual Clothes Day: Sports Colours Day
A reminder for tomorrow, Thursday 26th September, that our students will be having an end-of-term casual clothes/ sports colours day. Students in both Primary and Secondary are invited to wear sports colours or sports clothes (can be any sport), with money raised going to the Children's Cancer Foundation. If you don't have sports colours or clothes, just casual clothes are fine. Please ensure that clothes are appropriate with fully enclosed shoes to provide protection. Cost is a gold coin donation.
5 & 2
What is 5 & 2? It is a place for our secondary students to connect before the school day commences.
We all know the importance of a good breakfast (and how much teenagers eat!), so delicious fruit and snacks will be available to help start their day.
5 & 2 will be held every Thursday morning in the Secondary building from 8:00-8:25am.
