Student Spotlight
Sienna Burling
A massive congratulations to Year 10 student Sienna Burling who was selected to represent Tasmania at the Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships in Tamworth last month. Sienna finished 18th in Australia! We're extremely proud of her achievement.
Sienna has been riding horses since she was six months old, and she first competed when she was 13. It goes without saying that she loves horses, particularly her own thoroughbred beauty, Terry.
"He's not cuddly but he's very kind, bold and calm. He knows his job and he gets it done!"
The interschool equestrian event was Sienna's second competition in the past two years and she said it was a rollercoaster of emotions, from excitement and nerves to extreme focus, and then relief. However, it was a much better experience than last year, when her horse came down lame the night before and she felt rushed and tired.
"This year I felt calm and well prepared. There was good weather and the atmosphere was great. I met so many kind and supportive people. Even those I didn't know were like, 'Well done!' after I'd competed."
Horse riding and racing has always been a part of Sienna's family life, and she can't imagine that changing. Next in her sights, additional to the 2025 Interschool Equestrian Championships, is the Melbourne International Three Day Event at the beautiful Werribee Park. We're cheering you on, Sienna!
