At Toorak Primary, we are proud of our strong foundations in evidence-based practice, guided by the Science of Learning. Our teaching is informed by Cognitive Load Theory, meaning lessons are carefully structured to reduce unnecessary load, build deep understanding, and support students to move knowledge into long-term memory. We embed high-quality, explicit instruction, consistent routines, daily review, and responsive teaching to ensure all students can access and master new learning. Programs such as synthetic phonics, Prime Mathematics, and Core Knowledge units provide a clear, cumulative curriculum that builds knowledge and skills over time.

We believe that teaching and learning excellence must be matched with high expectations and high support for every learner. This includes a focus on student wellbeing, engagement, and voice — creating a calm, safe and predictable environment in which all students can flourish.
