eyes on VET

Welcome to another edition of Eyes on VET!

I’ve now returned from 5 weeks in very hot weather in Croatia and Italy, and have slowly adjusted to the cold here! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Jenny Casserly, Mrs Cathy Coleman and Mrs Donna Payton for all their efforts in holding the fort while I was on leave. They did a fantastic job, making it possible for me to enjoy a very memorable ride through Rome on a scooter and sidecar!

While I was away, most students in the Year 10 Work Readiness program enjoyed selecting and applying for a variety of TAFE courses for 2026, as part of their VET Connect program. Since my return, I have been working with students to investigate external courses at private RTOs and submit additional applications to TAFE. There is so much choice! It has been fantastic to see the range of interests that students have, and very satisfying to assist them in finding courses that match their interests and their journey towards future career pathways. Just a reminder that TAFE applications close on 29 August.

Many of our Year 11 VET students are wrapping up their external course this term and will be looking to pick up an extra day of Workplace Learning. They can either work an extra day with their current employer or take the opportunity to find another placement.

Year 12 VET students are working towards completion of their Certificates, both at school and externally, and are completing the final parts of their Workplace Learning requirements. It’s hard to believe that Year 12 students will be finishing their schooling in 5 more weeks.

It’s a very busy time in the VET space!
