Typographic Art

This term students have made a great start in their exploration of typographic art; artworks that include the use of letters, words, and different fonts.

We have looked at a range of text artists each using different mediums to create artworks that capture the audience attention, send a message, and share insights into different experiences.

We have also dived into the history and transformation of words within our culture and how text has developed over time from cave paintings to the first alphabet and beyond.

Prep

The prep students have been working hard applying the skills they have learnt over the last semester to design some bright and engaging name based artworks.

Using their knowledge of colour, line, shape, and pattern students have been drawing up a storm transforming their bubble letter names into individual works of art.

We love seeing all of the tremendous progress they are continuing to make.

Year 1/2

Years 1 and 2 have been putting their ruler skills to use creating a fantastic set of personalised geometric art works.

Taking inspiration from the things that make us who we are, the things that spark excitement and those that we deem to be our favourites (ice cream has certainly been mentioned a few times!) the 1/2's have whipped up some bold and beautiful art pieces.

Year 3/4

Our middle schoolers have blowing us away this term, turning every day objects and treats into a fantastic display of typographic illustrations.

Building on their skills each week, students have moved form one word to two word illustrations, using block letting and bubble fonts to bring their ideas and inspirations to life.

Year 5/6

Our senior students have been unpacking fonts, what makes a font, where do we find them and what is their purpose?

Having completed practise in both 2D and 3D lettering techniques, students have now begun designing their very own themed display fonts.

We are blown away by the limitless imagination and the engaging and unique works they have been creating this week.

Yayio Kusama

During term two, students worked diligently to produce a range of beautiful, quirky, and bold art pieces inspired by the work of legendary artist Yayoi Kasuma.

These impressive works have culminated in a vibrant collaborative installation now on display near the student sandpit.

Feel free to come along for a look at our students incredible works!
