Community Access Program

Community Access sponsored by Muswellbrook Nissan

Over the past fortnight, our Stage 4 and Stage 5 students participated in another two successful Community Access excursions, each designed to support the development of independence and broaden student’s understanding of post-school options.

On Wednesday 20 August, our Stage 4 students visited Gravity X at Rutherford where they were able to participate in practical activities that promote physical coordination, balance, and motor development in a highly engaging environment. This sensory rich experience can help with regulation and focus, while the social setting encourages communication, teamwork, and builds confidence. These kinds of excursions are not only enjoyable but also play a meaningful role in fostering independence and wellbeing. The students were then able to enjoy lunch at the Bradford Rutherford. Students chose items from the menu, ordered and paid for their meal. It was a wonderful day that was enjoyed by both students and staff.

On Monday 25 August, our Stage 5 students visited Koora Industries which is a supported employment option in Muswellbrook. Koora Industries offer a timber workshop and a lawn maintenance program. It was a wonderful tour and showed students another post school option. We would like to thank Koora Industries for their thorough and insightful tour. Students then visited the Muswellbrook Marketplace for lunch and were able to order and purchase lunch of their choice.

Students demonstrated exemplary behaviour during both excursions, and we were proud to see them engaging so positively with staff, peers, and the wider community. Their enthusiasm, respect, and willingness to try new things truly reflected the values we aim to instil every day at school.

We sincerely thank Muswellbrook Nissan for their generous support in helping make these enriching experiences possible for our students.
