NCTTC Cookery & Hospitality Industry Excursion
Last Thursday, students and staff from the NCTTC Cookery and Hospitality program enjoyed a fantastic day exploring a range of local hospitality venues in Charlton.
The day began with a visit to the Cricket Club Hotel, where Greg provided a guided tour of the newly renovated kitchen and shared valuable insights into working in the hospitality industry. Students then made their way to Charlton IGA, where owner Luke Morgan spoke about his career journey and the inner workings of running a local supermarket.
Next, the group visited The Vale of Avoca, where owners Benno and Carmel offered a warm welcome and an engaging tour of their licensed restaurant and BnB, giving students a unique perspective on running a dual-purpose hospitality business.
After a delicious lunch at the Charlton East Pub, Greg once again shared his expertise and gave students a behind-the-scenes look at his second venue. The final stop was Charlton Park 2020, where Kylie Fitzpatrick guided students through the impressive kitchen and catering facilities.
Throughout the day, students represented the NCTTC with enthusiasm and maturity, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine interest in the industry. With sunny weather and even a short visit to the local park, it was an enjoyable and educational day for all involved.

VET Sport, Aquatics and Recreation – Calder Athletics
Last Thursday, the VET Sport, Aquatics and Recreation students attended the Calder Athletic Sports at Charlton Park. Providing assistance at this event has become an annual event for this VET class. Students helped out with a range of activities including timekeeping, judging, recording and supporting students and volunteers with the general running of the day. Participation in events of this nature provides our students with an opportunity to apply the content they learn to real-life situations, which is critically important. The students were excellent ambassadors for the NCTTC and it was fantastic to see them approach the day with positivity, enthusiasm and maturity. Well done to Rhys and the class!
