LEGO SPIKE Prime Robotics Club

Worlds of Discovery Challenge Success!

Our Robotics Club has had an incredibly exciting term participating in the LEGO SPIKE Prime Challenge, based on the theme “Worlds of Discovery.” This nationwide competition inspired students to design and build robots capable of exploring unknown, extreme, or mysterious environments — and our young engineers rose to the challenge!

💡 How it all started:

Interest in the club was huge this year! Students applied for a place in the Robotics Club through a job-style application process — just like professionals. From this, ten teams were formed and began designing, coding, and testing their robots weekly in preparation for the big challenge.

Out of our 10 teams, five were submitted to the official SPIKE Prime Challenge. We’re proud to announce that we competed against 143 teams nationally, including around 40 teams from Victoria.

🎉 And the results are in!

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of two of our teams:

🏆 1st Place Victorian Division – The Explorers

Declan, Bill, Lucas, and Annant (Grade 6)

Their robot, the “Subzero Juggernaut,” is designed for icy exploration. Built to navigate misty and freezing environments, this clever robot excels in its mission: collecting ice samples where humans cannot venture. With advanced sensors and programming, it detects when it's carrying a sample and returns it safely to base using colour recognition — a brilliant example of engineering and coding combined!

🎖️ 4th Place Victorian Division – The Triple D's (Drilling Dirt Detectives)

Ash K, Jaylene Z, Abby C, Angeline P (Grade 6)

Their robot, “The Beetle-ector,” is built to explore hot, sandy deserts and discover fossils beneath the surface. Equipped with claws and a drill, this robot reflects true scientific thinking and environmental exploration. Its purpose is not only to recover hidden treasures but also to educate. Those fossils would eventually be showcased in a museum for others to learn from.

👩‍💻👨‍💻 All students showed remarkable creativity, teamwork, perseverance, and STEM thinking throughout the process. From early sketches to detailed code, each team worked hard to bring their robot ideas to life.

We are incredibly proud of every student who participated and look forward to seeing where our next World of Discovery will take us!
