21st Sunday in Ordinary Time (Sunday August 24th)
This Sunday, our Church celebrates the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. In the Gospel, we read about Jesus continuing teaching people in towns and villages.
The message for us today is that we are all personally invited by God to accept an invitation to live our lives with purpose. We know that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide us in all that we do, even when we are faced with struggles and difficult times. We are called to make right choices in our lives, so that we can continue to build positive relationships with others and make a difference through our words and actions.
Gospel Reading: Lk 13:22-30
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching, making his way to Jerusalem. Someone said to him, ‘Sir, will there be only a few saved?’ He said to them, ‘Try your best to enter by the narrow door, because, I tell you, many will try to enter and will not succeed.
‘Once the master of the house has got up and locked the door, you may find yourself knocking on the door, saying, “Lord, open to us” but he will answer, “I do not know where you come from.” Then you will find yourself saying, “We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streets” but he will reply, “I do not know where you come from. Away from me, all you wicked men!”
‘Then there will be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and yourselves turned outside. And men from east and west, from north and south, will come to take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.
‘Yes, there are those now last who will be first, and those now first who will be last.’
The Gospel of the Lord
“Lord,
We ask you for guidance as we strive to make the right choices,
so that we may enter through that ‘narrow door’.
Amen.”
Sacrament of Confirmation
We would like to congratulate the candidates for preparing so well for their Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation recognises the newly confirmed as full members of the Catholic Church, where they were anointed and sealed with the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you to our wonderful families for working in partnership with us to prepare the children for this next step in their faith journey. The candidates should be proud of themselves, particularly with responding so positively when renewing their Baptismal Promises during the Mass. A special thanks to Bishop Rene Ramirez for celebrating the Mass and to Fr Colin for supporting the candidates as they prepared for the sacrament.
Confirmation Retreat Day
The Year 6 students gathered for the Confirmation Retreat Day on the 8th August. The day began with attending the morning Parish Mass, followed by learning related to Confirmation and about the life of Australia’s First Saint- St Mary of the Cross (MacKillop).
Sacrament of First Reconciliation
Thanks to the families of our First Reconciliation children for coming along to the family night yesterday, which was led by Fr Elio Capra.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be celebrated on Wednesday 3rd September at 7:00p.m. Our Year 3 students will be gathering for the Reconciliation Retreat Day on this day. Please keep the children in your prayers as they continue preparations for this sacrament.

Putting our Mercy Values of 'Service and Compassion' into action!
Our focus this term is to support the needy people in our local community. We look forward to putting our Mercy Values of ‘Service and Compassion’ into action, by working in groups each week to cook food for the HOPE Cafe.
Students’ snapshots about their cooking experience
In Week 3, we were baking blueberry muffins for the Hope Cafe to feed the people who aren't as fortunate as us. My group, Isabel, Allyana and I were very cooperative and we took turns equally. I felt good when I took the muffins over to the Hope Cafe because feeding the homeless/needy people makes me feel like they can eat whenever they want in the Hope Cafe. By Sienna
Last Wednesday we made some muffins for people at the Hope Café who need food to eat. I felt good and happy when Miss Mash told us that we were going to make the muffins because the people do not always have food. By Chelsea
Last Wednesday we baked muffins for the Hope Café. I thought it was really good fun because we baked them, and we collaborated with other people when we made them. By Alessia
