Prep Transition

This week, we had the pleasure of facilitating our third Prep Transition session, where we hosted Market Information Stalls. It was wonderful to see our new families exploring the hall, engaging with various groups, and asking questions. The stalls provided valuable insights into the many ways they can get involved in our school community and learn more about the exciting extracurricular activities available for their child during their time at primary school.

Our final Prep Transition session, Orientation, will be held on Wednesday, 4th December. This will be a special day for our new Prep students, as they will find out which class they will be in and meet their teacher for 2025. It’s a moment filled with anticipation and excitement for all involved!

We look forward to sharing this milestone with the 2025 Prep students and their families as we prepare for a wonderful year ahead.

Year 5 Leadership Discussion

This week, Mr Cooper and I, along with the Year 5 teachers and our current school leaders, held an important leadership conversation with our Year 5 students, focusing on the topic of leadership and the exciting opportunities available to them through the new CSPS leadership process. During the discussion, we outlined the application process and key timings, providing the students with clear guidance on how to apply for leadership roles within the school. We emphasised the values and responsibilities of leadership, encouraging our Year 5 students to think about how they can contribute to our school community and make a positive impact. It was a great opportunity for them to reflect on their personal goals and aspirations as future leaders.

Wellbeing – Resilience

Resilience is the ability to be able to bounce back from problems and setbacks.

Resilience is such a valuable life skill because it's key to learn how to get back up and carry on after you face a difficult challenge, as we cannot escape difficult situations in life. When we're resilient, we're more confident in ourselves and our capabilities which in turn, motivates us to succeed.

There are personal and social skills that children need to learn to become more resilient and cope with problems and difficult times.

They need to develop:

  • Self-Management Skills – the ability to manage strong emotions, such as anger and fear, manage impulses, can predict problems and solve them and be able to focus on positive things in negative situations
  • Self-Awareness Skills – can articulate their strengths and challenges, able to self-reflect on their behaviour and decisions and can accept setbacks as a normal part of life
  • Social Management Skills – have skills to make and keep friends, work through conflict with friends and ask for help when needed
  • Social Awareness Skills – being able to read and respond to other people’s feelings and the ability to empathise with them, appreciate other people’s point of view, know where to go for help at home, at school and in the community and value relationships
