Digital Safety and Wellbeing:
A Holiday Reminder
As the end of Term Four approaches, it's a great opportunity to reinforce digital safety and wellbeing practices with your child before the holidays.
Monitoring Student Devices:
- Device Placement: Consider keeping devices in common areas of the home, such as the living room or kitchen.
- Parental Controls: Utilize parental control tools on devices and internet connections to set limits on screen time and access to inappropriate content.
- Regular Check-ins: Encourage open conversations about your child's online activities and monitor their device usage.
Social Media and Online Platforms:
- Age Appropriateness: Ensure that your child is using age-appropriate social media platforms and apps.
- Privacy Settings: Help your child understand the importance of strong privacy settings and limiting the amount of personal information they share online.
- Online Friendships: Discuss the risks of online friendships and the importance of being cautious when interacting with strangers online.
Help-Seeking and Open Conversations:
- Create a Safe Space: Encourage your child to come to you with any concerns or questions they may have about their online experiences.
- Active Listening: Practice active listening and ask open-ended questions to understand your child's perspective.
- Model Positive Online Behavior: Set a positive example by demonstrating responsible and respectful online behavior.
This year we have worked really hard in our Wellbeing sessions to build students capacity and understanding of the importance of help seeking. It is a great time to talk to your child about who they can talk to if they need advice or help in managing challenging situations online.
Below we have also included some visual information from our partnership with Inform and Empower. These are some great examples of how we can stay healthy online and informed on current information endorsed by the eSafety commissioner.
