Small Business Enterprise
Earlier this week, Middle School students who are taking this elective subject visited Mount Beauty's very own Veg Shed (the retail side of the long-established Vegitation Wholesale business).
Mr Nick Goznik met the group to give them a tour and to talk about different aspects of a small business. Nick is a former student at Mount Beauty Secondary College and explained how he plays music to help create a friendly environment for customers. All the veggies and fruit are direct from the Melbourne market, with the Veg Shed open for retail shopping on Mondays and Thursdays 10am - 5:30pm.
Thankyou to Nick and the Veg Shed for taking the time to talk to our students.
Some comments from the students about their experience:
“The shop looked good and clean. It was interesting learning about recycling the boxes”
“His shop was very welcoming”
"I learned it is better to make people feel welcomed”
“I learned that to be a small business you need to start small and to use your money carefully”
"Today I learned that you do a lot of work outside of hours. It helped me to understand that people who have their own business work a lot more than what you would think. Another thing I learned was that there is a lot going on in the background that isn't in the shop. People are working there all the time to make sure the shop is running properly”
“I learnt that owning a small business is a lot harder than it sounds, you might open the shop at 12:00pm and close at 6:00pm, but you also must get there earlier to set up and pack up"
Future Makers
Year 8 students had their first taste of the Future Makers Program when they walked the Mount Beauty Gorge Walk this week. A representative from The Outdoor School came along to familiarise the students with what to expect on their main camp next year. Looks like students enjoyed the walk and a splash in the river. If you missed the information presentation about the camp in 2025 and have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with the school.
See the poster below, if you are a Year 9 student who attended Future Makers this year, and are keen to make the most of more opportunities in 2025. Applications close on December the 5th.
