The Grade 3/4 students have started to explore the concept that animal and other living things can be grouped on the basis of features. This week we have studied different types of Australian frogs. The students have enjoyed looking at all the variations frogs have, such as, colour, skin type, eye and pupil shape, size, their toes and their different habitats. They have particularly enjoyed listening to the sound frogs make and how different they all sound from each other. The students were all amazed that one frog even sounded like a dog barking!
They have all had a go at drawing a type of frog. It was interesting to note just how different each of their frogs are as well, just like in the real world.
Next week we will be looking at different types of bats.
The Grade 5/6 students are currently learning about how animals, particularly Australian animals, have structural features and adaptations to be able to survive in their particular environment. The students are participating in a WebQuest, to find out as much information as they can about a variety of different Australian animals.
The WebQuest is taking them on a journey around Australia and through many different types of environments. I have really enjoyed how engaged the students have been in this activity and am looking forward to hearing about what they have found out.
