Students in Foundation ventured out for their first school excursion to the Geelong Library last week and had a wonderful time exploring in our local community.
A big thank you to our Prep teachers, Ed Support and parent volunteers who assisted our teachers and Ed Support staff on the day.
A reminder to all families that we have a process for Volunteer Induction for all school activities, excursions and camps. Our Induction process is valid for 12 months and will soon be available to complete online.
We encourage all families who wish to volunteer in any capacity this year, to complete the online form, once released and this information will be recorded at our front office.
** Please note the Christmas Fair has a separate induction as this is a large-scale school event.
We continue to value the partnership in education with families and appreciate and value the ongoing support to ensure our students have every opportunity.
In the coming weeks, students in Grades 5 and 6 will have the opportunity to audition for our 2025 teams. From this year on, we will be offering Tournament of Minds (ToM) bi-annually so as to not compete with a concert year.
This year’s competition is open to both grades 5 and 6 and students will be assessed on their ability to collaborate, problem solve, communicate effectively and think creatively. 28 students will be chosen across four teams to represent Fyans Park.
The first competition is set for Sunday 24th August to be held at Deakin University.
Miss Lewis will once again be coordinating this year’s event, with more information to follow once the teams have been established.
Fyans Park has a long and successful history with this event, and we look forward to supporting the students once again, as they engage with Tournament of Minds.
This week, seven of the eight concrete footings were poured with the last rescheduled for early next week. The concrete then needs to cure for a week, after-which our all-weather structure can start to be erected. This is when we will start to visibly see some real progress and the structure takes shape.
Pleasingly, our students have shown incredible flexibility and behaviour around the building sites with two major projects on the go at the same time.
This week in particular, with a lot of heavy machinery on site, it has been exciting for students and staff to see things progressing.
Our school amphitheatre on the outer edge of the school oval is well underway and progress on this has been swift with WXT Landscaping on the job. We will have this new space ready to enjoy in the coming weeks and I am confident it will be well loved by students, teachers and families.
With our expected behaviours now familiar to students and visible in all classrooms. Our SWPBS team of teachers and our Student Wellbeing leaders – Max and Gracie have been using all the available data to determine a fortnightly behaviour focus for the whole school and an area we can target our attention to that is clear for students.
Most recently Max and Gracie informed students that some of the sports equipment being borrowed out at lunchtimes wasn’t being returned, so over the last two weeks, the focus has been:
Responsibility: We take care of school property and our belongings.
This fortnight the focus is "we listen to and follow ainstructions"
Next week and in the coming weeks at assembly – Values awards will be awarded for students who have demonstrated the agreed fortnightly focus.
Students’ positive behaviour is also be acknowledged via our Dojo system in each class with students earning ‘Dojo reward points’ to go towards a wide range of school-based experiences.

Our Student Voice Team are planning a very special out of uniform day on Thursday 5th June and we will be going blue for Dolly.
There will be blue activities and students will be invited to wear blue for Dolly. At the beginning of 2018, the country was devastated by the untimely death of 14-year- old Dolly Everett who took her own life after an extended period of bullying and cyber-bullying. Inspired by her spirit and fuelled by hope, Dolly's parents set out on a mission to create a kinder, safer world for every child.
Dolly’s Dream is committed to changing the culture of bullying by addressing the impact of bullying, anxiety, depression and youth suicide, through education and direct support to young people and families.

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
This information assists schools to:
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

It has been fabulous to meet so many families who will have their first child start school next year at Fyans Park. The School Captains and I have held several large school tours now and our captains quickly became the stars of the show. I stood and listened with pride as our students shared their experiences as students at Fyans Park. Equally as the tour concluded, I received glowing feedback from new families about our learning programs and opportunities for students.
A very big thank you to Mara, Ned, Willow and Harry for their leadership and welcoming new families to our school.
Have a great week everyone
Mrs Cameron
