Visual Art

Mrs Lauren Scarfo

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the creative and enthusiastic students at OLGC. Their energy and passion for art have made my few terms here a joy!

Foundation

Students enjoyed a vibrant exploration of the colours of the rainbow, inspired by The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle. They expressed their creativity through hands-on art activities, recreating illustrations using a variety of materials such as collage and guided drawing. The experience also supported the development of key artistic skills including drawing, colouring, painting, cutting, pasting, sorting, and colour blending.

Year 1/2

This Term the students have engaged in a rich exploration of art by studying the works of renowned artists such as Vincent van Gogh. Inspired by his iconic style, they experimented with still life drawing and watercolour techniques, developing their observational skills and understanding of colour, texture, and form. Students also explored Indigenous Australian culture through Dreamtime stories, using them as inspiration for creative work with collage and guided drawing. These activities enriched their appreciation of diverse art styles while building skills in visual storytelling and mixed media techniques.

Year 3/4

Pop Art was explored this term, with students creating vibrant animal-themed artworks inspired by artist Dean Russo. Throughout the project, they refined a range of skills including drawing, colouring, painting, sorting and blending colours, and creating bold patterns. A variety of media was used to bring their ideas to life, including acrylic paint, watercolours, pastels, markers, stencils, and chalk. This creative experience encouraged students to experiment with colour and express their individual style.
