STEM Term Highlights – What We’ve Been Learning!

It’s been a fantastic and busy term in STEM across all year levels! Students have been deeply engaged in hands-on learning, exploring big ideas about our earth, the sky, and how we can build a more sustainable future. Here’s a snapshot of what each year level has been up to:

Prep

Our youngest learners have been turning their eyes to the sky! Through our Sky Journal activity, students observed the night sky and tracked changes over time. A big thank you to all the parents who supported this learning at home – your help made a big difference. In class, we explored how the Earth and Moon rotate, how day and night occur, and how shadows are formed. We also learned about different types of clouds and what they’re made of, moon phases, and completed a range of fun science experiments that brought these concepts to life.

Year 1/2

Students in Years 1 and 2 also kept a Sky Journal, and we extend our thanks to the families who helped observe and record their children’s findings at home. In Term 2, we explored how shadows are made, dived into the water cycle, and discussed how our actions can impact the environment. We also took a tour of our solar system, learning key facts about each planet and continuing our journey into space science.

Year 3/4

In Years 3 and 4, we got our hands dirty with experiments on soil erosion and weathering, helping students understand how landscapes change over time. We investigated renewable energy sources and the importance of sustainability, and learned about different types of natural disasters. To bring all these concepts together, students planned and built their own Green Cities. These creative and thoughtful designs were on display at the end of Term 2.

Year 5/6

Our senior students focused on sustainability and how Earth changes over time. They researched natural disasters in depth and applied their knowledge to a major project by building disaster-resistant housing models. Students worked in teams, using both Minecraft and physical materials to bring their ideas to life.

Well done to all our students for their curiosity, creativity, and hard work this Term. STEM learning continues to grow strong in our school, and we’re so proud of the amazing efforts across all year levels!
