Year 3 - Middle Unit

This fortnight, the Year 3 students have been putting the finishing touches on their Scientist Biographies. They were tasked with researching a famous scientist and finding information about key parts of that scientist’s life. Students then typed up their findings in a Google Doc, for some, this was their first experience with word processing. They also learned how to copy and paste images into their documents. Please see the images below for examples of the student’s hard work.

In Literacy this week, we began learning about inference.

Inference is a reading comprehension strategy where students use clues from the text and combine them with their own experiences to draw conclusions. We also introduced students to a new aspect of persuasive writing: advertising. They especially enjoyed watching food and toy commercials from the early 1990s — a nostalgic experience for their teachers.

In Numeracy, students have started learning about data collection and analysis.

They are exploring the difference between categorical and numerical data and learning which types of graphs are best suited to display each kind of information.
