Year 5/6 - Senior Unit

This fortnight in the Senior Unit may have been a quiet one for events, but a fun one of learning!
Scienceworks Excursion
Last Thursday, we visited Scienceworks for an immersive day of science exploration. Students participated in the Sun, Earth and Moon workshop held in the Energy Lab, followed by an exciting Energy Show in the Lightning Room. Afterward, students explored the exhibits and made great connections with their learning across multiple subjects. Be sure to check out some of the happy snaps below!
Somer’s Camp
Seven of our lucky students attended Somer's Camp recently, and it was by all accounts a truly memorable experience. It was heartwarming to hear stories of new friendships, exciting activities, and the personal growth that came with it.
Literacy
In Literacy, we’ve begun a deep dive into the world of science fiction. Students have explored how authors use figurative language to bring characters and settings to life, set the mood, and engage their readers. They are now applying these techniques in their own science-fiction narratives, developing creative plots and vivid characters.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, our focus has been on positive and negative integers and their representation on the Cartesian plane. Students have explored how coordinates change through reflections, rotations and translations. These skills will soon be applied in the creation of tessellated art patterns.
Inquiry
You may have noticed a buzz of excitement as students launched into their independent Light and Gravity science projects. Each student has chosen tasks to demonstrate their understanding in a hands-on, personalised way. We’re thrilled to announce that families will be invited to view our learning at a Science Exhibition on Tuesday in the final week of term. Keep an eye on Compass for further details!
