Auslan

Australian Sign Language 

 

Students across the school have been learning signs for the house and their rooms. They have been incorporating all the signs they have learnt to create Auslan grammatical sentences through pictures and sentence structures. 

Prep - Year 3

Students have been taught how to sign house, bedroom, bathroom, toilet, lounge room, kitchen, dining room, guest room, laundry and garden. They have also learnt colours to create drawings and sentences describing their own and fictional houses. Grade 2 and 3 students have been able to practice translating visual Auslan into spoken English through pair work.   

Grade 4 - 6  

Students have learnt the rooms of the house as well as items that you can find in the home such as fan, wardrobe, clock, windows. They used their known signs to create Auslan grammatical sentences. Grade 4 to 6 students have been able to practice communicating using sign language by translating visual Auslan to spoken English. They have started practicing sign language between partners and groups, asking questions and answering.
