During the second half of Term 2, the students have continued their exploration into the colourful world of polka dots. Having previously examined the works of modern Indigenous Artist Bobby Lockyer, we have compared and contrasted this with the work of legendary artist and the 'Queen of Polka dots', Yayoi Kusama.
From pumpkins, mushrooms, and flowers, to hypnotic mirror rooms, larger than life sculptures, and out of this world installations, the students have created an incredible array of Yayoi Kusama inspired works, culminating in early Term 3 as our latest whole school collaborative art piece.
The prep students have continued their foray into colour and mixing, using a range of complimentary and opposite colours in creating a range of Yayoi inspired pumpkins and fabulous flowers. We have been so impressed with their developing fine motor and colour application skills. Super stars!
The year one and two students have been hard at work refining their detailed hand painted works and have produce an array of visually engaging and out of this world mushrooms, providing the magical foundation for our collaborate installation scene.
Our incredible year three and four students have been working hard combining paper plates and paint, transforming these into a kaleidoscope of colourful and eye catching 3D Kusama inspired flowers. We love the effort they have put into their design phases, application, and problem solving skills developed along the way.
Year five and six students have been working hard, creating detailed design plans and adapting their ideas from sketches to painted mediums. They have impressed us with their ability to continue to refine the fine detailing within their work, crafting, cutting and apply their understanding of colour to creating a range of Yayoi Kusama inspired flowers.
