Prep Newsletter – Term 2 Week 6
It’s hard to believe, but we’re already halfway through Term 2, and what a busy and exciting term it’s been for our Prep students!
We are incredibly proud to share that the Preps are almost finished learning all the letters and sounds of the alphabet which is a fantastic achievement! Their confidence with reading and writing is growing each day, especially how they have used the skills they have learnt in class from stretchy snake or fish the lips to help them read their decodable books.
The children have been diving into the wonderful world of measurement for maths as they have incorporated language from what is taller or shorter or can identify the capacity of an object where we explored how much different containers can hold.
Our integrated studies topic has given the children a meaningful look into the people and services that help keep our community safe and sound. We’ve had several special visits from real-life community helpers, and the children have absolutely loved every moment.
So far, the children have learned how to identify a police officer, the important tools they use, and how they help protect us every day. The highlight for many was getting to see a real police car up close with lights flashing and sirens going.
We’ve also explored the topic of fire safety, learning the difference between good and bad fires, and how firefighters use their gear and training to keep us all safe. There’s been lots of excitement building as we prepare for the upcoming visit from the fire truck, a moment the prep students are especially looking forward to!
This week we are recognising “Reconciliation Week”. The theme this year is “Bridging Now to the next” This theme emphasizes the ongoing connection between past, present and future, urging all Australians to reflect on the lessons learned and move forward together towards reconciliation. The children are working towards forming a class, “Acknowledgement to Country” and creating some artwork showing the connection we are working towards.
We can’t wait to see what the second half of the term brings!
