Division Cross Country – Tuesday 13th May

On Tuesday May 13, 110 students from all year levels competed at the Division Cross Country event, once again at Nortons Park. The weather was perfect for racing, with blue skies and 21 degrees. Boys aged 16 or over ran the 5km course, while all others ran 3km. Well done to all students for finishing their races and representing Highvale. A huge congratulations to the 23 Highvale students who placed in the top 15 in their respective races. These students will now go on to compete at the Region competition on June 12 at Yarra Glen Racecourse. A special mention goes to Isla Savin of year 7, who won the girls Under 13s race! A wonderful achievement.

Boys Netball & Girls AFL Day – Wednesday 28th May

Wednesday 28th May was an exciting and action-packed day for our students, with both the Boys Netball and Girls AFL teams taking to the courts and fields in a fantastic display of skill, teamwork, and school spirit.

Boys Netball at Waverley Netball Centre

Boys across all year levels headed to the Waverley Netball Centre for a full day of competition against our Waverley Division rivals, representing our school in junior, intermediate and senior divisions. The standout performance came from our Junior Boys Netball team, who were crowned overall champions and will now progress to the regional competition! The team showed remarkable cohesion and skill, with fast-paced passing, strong defence, and accurate shooting leading the way.

A special congratulations goes to our star Goal Shooter, Caden Bachmann, who scored dozens of goals across the three games and was rightfully named MVP of the day. Well done, Caden, and best of luck to the team as they prepare for regionals!

Girls AFL at Koonung and Heatherdale Reserves

Meanwhile, our Girls AFL teams took to the ovals, with juniors competing at Heatherdale Reserve and intermediates and seniors battling it out at Koonung Reserve. Greasy conditions made the ball slippery, but the rain held off and a great day’s competition was had. All teams played with grit and passion, but a particular highlight was the Senior Girls' commanding 24–0 win over Glen Waverley — a remarkable result given the side was significantly undermanned on the day. Their determination, teamwork and relentless pressure were key to their well-earned victory.

Across both venues, the girls embraced the spirit of the game, showing courage, tenacity and great improvement throughout their matches. Strong tackles, strategic ball movement, and vocal leadership on the field were evident in all teams.

A huge thank you to all the staff and coaches who supported the day, and congratulations to all students who participated. Whether it was on the court or the field, it was a great celebration of school sport and community spirit!
