The Year 9 camp at The Portsea Camp from May 14-16 was a remarkable and enriching experience for all 120 students who attended. Set against the stunning backdrop of Portsea’s natural beauty, the camp aimed to focus on team building, personal growth, and mindfulness activities. The weather was perfect, with clear skies and mild temperatures, which added to the enjoyment and success of the trip.

Throughout the camp, students engaged in a variety of activities designed to challenge and inspire them, promoting both individual growth and teamwork.

One of the highlights of the camp was the Giant Swing. Students experienced the thrill of soaring through the air but also faced their fears and pushed themselves outside of their comfort zones. The view from the top was absolutely breathtaking, and it provided a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with the natural surroundings.

Another crowd favourite was the Flying Fox. Students took turns racing down the zipline, feeling the adrenaline rush. It was an activity that encouraged trust and camaraderie as they cheered each other on.

In line with the camp’s theme of wellbeing, students participated in a mindful beach walk. This was a peaceful experience where students reflected on their surroundings, practiced mindfulness techniques, and learned to stay present in the moment.

Yoga sessions were incredibly popular, with many students discovering a newfound appreciation for its calming effects. It became a favourite activity for relaxation and stress relief.

One of the most memorable parts of the camp was the campfire session, where students gathered together to enjoy S’mores and damper-making. This activity was a new experience for many, and the sense of community around the fire added to the camp’s warm and inclusive atmosphere. It was a perfect way to end the day, with students sharing stories, laughter, and enjoying the traditional campfire treats.

The main aim of the camp was to promote team building and wellbeing. Throughout the camp, students engaged in activities that not only strengthened their teamwork skills but also helped them develop a sense of mindfulness and self-awareness.

The students were truly fantastic, demonstrating enthusiasm, resilience, and a willingness to try new things. Many students challenged themselves to take part in activities that pushed their boundaries, whether it was summiting the Giant Swing, conquering their fears on the Flying Fox, or participating in yoga for the first time. Their positive attitudes and willingness to engage in the activities made the camp experience incredibly rewarding for all involved.

The Year 9 camp at The Portsea Camp was an outstanding success. The students embraced the camp’s objectives of personal growth, team building, and mindfulness, and the beautiful location, perfect weather, and well-organized activities all contributed to a memorable experience. The camp allowed students to not only bond with their peers but also grow as individuals, and it will surely be a highlight of their Year 9 year.

I would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff who attended camp staff for participating, as well as to the students for their positive energy and enthusiasm throughout the entire trip. We look forward to seeing the continued growth and development of each student as they take what they’ve learned from the camp and apply it in their everyday lives.
