FREE Public Dental Service For All Children

NSW Health Public Dental Services have undergone several changes over the years, particularly for services provided to children. Due to these changes, many parents may not be aware of their children's eligibility to public dental care.   We hope this email will give you basic information regarding the level of services available for the child population in the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).

Children from your school and community are eligible for free public dental care.  In order for children and young persons (under the age of 18 years) to be eligible they must:

  • Reside within the boundaries of SESLHD; and
  • Be eligible for Medicare; and
  • Have their parent/guardian sign the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) Bulk Billing Patient Consent Form

CDBS (Child Dental Benefits Scheme)

From 1 July 2025, parents/guardians of children (aged 0-17 years old) accessing a NSW public dental service must sign a CDBS Bulk Billing Patient Consent Form. Regardless of their CDBS eligibility or the amount remaining on a patient’s cap, NSW public dental services will remain free to all children who are eligible for Medicare.

A CDBS Bulk Billing Patient Consent Form must be signed by the parent/guardian at the first appointment and each appointment afterwards.

More information about CDBS is available on the Services Australia Child Dental Benefits Schedule website and NSW Health Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) website.

The following public dental clinics provide dental services to children in SESLHD:

  • Sutherland Hospital Dental Clinic
  • Kogarah Community Dental Clinic &
  • Daceyville Child & Youth Dental Clinic (Behind PCYC)

To access Public Dental Service for children, parents should contact the Central Intake Centre on: 1800 679 336.
