PREP

The Prep students have begun the term by being introduced to music. The unit focuses on looking at music from around the world, singing and playing various instruments. This week, the Preps focused on where music came from and how old different songs are.

YEAR 1

Year 1 students have commenced our dance unit, where students will explore how to use their bodies safely to move in different ways using the elements of dance.

This week we began experimenting with how our bodies

can move like different Australian animals.

YEAR 2

Year 2 students have started their dance unit by understanding safe dance practices. This included finding a safe body zone and doing warm up and cool downs before and after dancing. Later in the unit, students will be creating their own dance sequence.

YEAR 3

The Year 3’s started this term strongly, creating their own choreographed dance sequence. Over the next 4 weeks, they will build on their dances, adding the physical dance skills of balance, flexibility and weight transference.

YEAR 4

Year 4 students have begun exploring music in different forms through their “Electric Music” unit. Over the next few weeks, they will be exploring music through playing keyboards and glockenspiels, making rhythm patterns and using Chrome Music Lab to create and adapt familiar songs.

YEAR 5

The Year 5 students have begun their music unit where they will learn and practise a range of songs and re-write lyrics to the song ‘I Am Australian’ sharing their family’s immigration story to Australia. This week we discussed voice care and sang some songs relating to ANZAC Day.

YEAR 6

The Year 6 cohort have started planning their choreography for their very own music video! In small groups, students will choose a song by a modern Indigenous artist, create and practise dance choreography, then film and edit their work.
