YEAR 4

FROM THE CLASSROOM

Welcome back to Term 2! It was wonderful to see students returning on Monday ready to begin the term. They have settled back beautifully! This week we began our new Talk for Write text called ‘The Fall’. As part of our hook, we made parachutes and enjoyed going outside to test how they worked. For the first few weeks of this term we will be exploring the text ‘The Wild Robot’ in Reading which students enjoyed beginning this week. This linked excellently with the introduction of our Inquiry unit for this term ‘Curious Coders’ that has a digital technology focus. In Maths, we began our unit on decimals and developed our understanding of how to read these.

We have lots of exciting things happening this term. Some of the things students are looking forward to are:

READING

• We are learning to identify new and interesting words, find the main idea and summarise chapters as part of our text ‘The Wild Robot’.

WRITING

• We are learning to create suspense by varying our sentence length and creating atmosphere through settings.

MATHS

• We are learning to read, write, order and compare decimals to hundredths.

   

INQUIRY

• We are learning to identify types of peripherals and explain their purpose when talking about technology.

   

WELLBEING

• We are learning to explore the strength/intensity of emotions in different situations.
