FROM THE CLASSROOM

Welcome back! Term 2 has started off excitedly for all the Prep students. They have been exploring new investigations stations focused around our “My Place” Inquiry unit. They will be spending the term learning and sharing about special places and what makes them special to individuals.

Here are some thoughts from Prep E students about our new Investigations areas:

“I am exciting to play schools with my friends; I am going to teach them the Milo Monkey cards” - Micaylah (Prep E)

“My friend wants me to dye their hair blue in our play hairdressers” - Freddie (Prep F)

“I like to order play-doh ice cream, strawberry flavour” - Jujhar (Prep E)

We have also begun our new Talk for Writing text of Little Charlie. Please ask your child to share this exciting story with you.

INVESTIGATIONS

I can describe what people do in special places.
I can share ideas about how our school is special.

PHONICS

I can read, write, and say the /e/ sound.
I can identify the sound /e/ in words using Eddy Elephant for help.

MATHS

I can partition numerals 0-10. (This will be our focus for Weeks 1-3 as we explore individual numbers and how they are made up).

WELLBEING

I can practice ways to seek, give and deny permission respectfully.
I can explain what ‘permission’ and ‘consent’ mean.
I can keep my hands, feet and objects to myself.

READING

I can explore new vocabulary.
I can identify the main idea in a text.
I can summarise a text using a 5-finger retell.
I can ask and answer questions about a text.

WRITING

I can write initial sounds and CVC words.
I can orally retell Little Charlie.

REMINDERS

Reader Bags & Home Reading Journals

A reminder to make sure your child is bringing their reader bag to school each day. Inside should be a small reader book, take home journal, and M100 Word pouch. Students will be able to take a new reader book each day if the previous one has been returned. It has been exciting to see students already having books written in their journals, and we look forward to celebrating their nightly reading in the classroom!

Digital Technology Forms

Please ensure that each section is filled out with your child, and that the form is brought back to school as soon as possible. If you need a replacement form, please contact your child’s teacher. We have begun using iPads THIS WEEK.

Compass Permissions

Please ensure to follow the permission prompts on Compass. This includes walking permission, permission to have your child’s photo taken and published in the newsletter or on social media. If you need assistance with this, please contact your child’s teacher.

Supporting Independence in Prep

A big thank you to parents for encouraging students to walk into the classroom independently each morning. It has been wonderful to see the smiles on their faces as they walk into the classroom independently and hold their own schoolbag! We thank you for your ongoing support with this.
