Kinglake National Park Excursion
On Monday, March 16th, our Year 11 Geography students visited Kinglake National Park as part of their fieldwork investigation for Geography. The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to apply classroom learning to a real-world context, exploring how landscapes recover and adapt following major bushfire events.
Students collected first-hand data and examined strategies used by Parks Victoria to manage fuel loads, protect communities, and support ecosystem resilience. The experience highlighted the importance of sustainable hazard management in Victoria’s bushfire-prone regions.
LIVE FM
On Monday March 16, our Year 11 VM students took part in an exciting LIVE FM radio broadcasting incursion as part of their Literacy studies. Recently, students have been learning how to plan and deliver engaging podcasts, and this hands-on experience provided a valuable opportunity to apply those skills in a real-world setting.
Ralph from LIVE FM worked with students to develop their understanding of live broadcasting and what makes an effective and engaging interview. Students then worked collaboratively in small groups to plan interviews with a teacher of their choice, preparing thoughtful and purposeful questions designed to spark interesting conversation.
The highlight of the session was the opportunity for students to record their own ‘live’ interviews with teachers. They demonstrated impressive confidence and developing broadcasting skills, making their interviewees feel comfortable and encouraging them to share personal insights and experiences through their curious and well-prepared questions.
It was wonderful to see students building their communication skills, teamwork, and confidence in such an authentic learning environment.
