Message from the Chaplain

ANZAC Day Commemorations
ANZAC Day invites us to pause and remember the men and women who served, suffered and sacrificed in times of war. Their courage and endurance have shaped the freedoms and peace we often take for granted. As we honour them, Christians also turn to the example of Jesus, who spoke of a love willing to give itself for others.
In John 15:13, Jesus says;
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
This does not glorify war; instead, it highlights the depth of love shown when people act with selflessness and courage in the face of fear. On ANZAC Day we remember real people - the young, hopeful and often far from home - who stepped into danger not for glory, but out of duty, loyalty and love.
Their stories challenge us to consider the kind of people we are becoming. Are we willing to stand up for what is right? To choose peace when conflict is easier? To serve others with humility and compassion?
At present the world has several places where there is conflict stemming from a desire to dominate by power and force. As we remember the ANZACs, may we commit ourselves to building a world where peace is cherished, where sacrifice is honoured through the way we live and where love for others - Christ’s love - guides our choices each day.
