Welcome back to Term 2 everyone!
National Young Leaders Conference
On Friday, 27th March, our Yr 6 student Leaders attended the National Young Leaders Conference in the City. They listened to speeches from some inspirational Australians, including Catherine Laga’aia who is playing Moana in the live action movie. The students heard stories of motivation, creativity, perseverance and resilience. It was amazing to hear about people who were following their dreams and being successful.
Here are some of the leader's reflections on the day -
Leah - It was the best, I loved meeting Moana. It was so fun and I loved the brain breaks.
Aarush - I thought it was really fun how we travelled on public transport, and I also learnt a lot about motivation.
Evan - I loved how we found out their thoughts or what they got inspired from.
Ethan - I liked going to the city as a group and going on public transport.
Xavier - I liked travelling to the city and I got inspired by the actors.
Sofia - I liked using public transport and I loved meeting new people.
Olivia - I loved going into the city with my friends and going on the public transport.
Darlene - I enjoyed listening to all their inspirational stories.
Aoife - I loved going on the public transport and the fun activities they set up to keep us interested.
Haala - I like the author Adrian Beck because he was really funny and creative.
Some programs we offer at SMDP
Seasons for Growth
At the end of last term, Jing (our school psychologist) and I participated in training for the “Seasons for Growth” program. Seasons for Growth is a small group education program that supports children and young people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and respond well to experiences of change, loss and grief.
Seasons for Growth supports children and young people who have experienced change and loss, including, although not limited to friendship changes, family separation, loss or death of someone they care about, loss of a pet, relocation and forced migration, living away in out of home care, or physical or mental illness.
Peaceful Kids
The 'Peaceful Kids' program is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. This program helps children to build their emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with the day to day stresses that life brings them.
If you would like to know more about these programs, or believe your child would benefit from participating in them, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or Jing or myself for more information.
Thank you.
