Come and See Learning at Balambalam

On Tuesday 17th March we will be holding a parent information session about how we teach reading at Balambalam. This session will help families understand how children learn to read and how you can support your child when reading at home.

During the week beginning Monday 23rd March, we will also be hosting open classroom afternoons, where families will be able to visit classrooms and see learning in action.

These opportunities help families better understand their child’s learning and strengthen the partnership between school and home.

More details about dates and times can be found further in this newsletter.

NAPLAN

This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students have been participating in NAPLAN assessments, and by the end of the week they will be about halfway through the testing schedule.

Despite the disruption our Year 5 students faced on day one, all of our students have approached the assessments with a calm and positive attitude, and we are very proud of the effort they have shown. The tests simply give students an opportunity to demonstrate some of the reading, writing and mathematics skills they have been developing throughout their schooling.

NAPLAN provides one snapshot of student learning. At Balambalam, teachers also use many classroom activities and assessments throughout the year to understand how students are progressing and how best to support their learning.

The most important message we share with students is simply to try their best and keep a positive mindset.

Thank you to our families for supporting students to arrive at school well rested and ready to learn during the testing period.

I would also like to thank our teachers and support staff for the thoughtful preparation and organisation that has helped the testing run smoothly and ensured students feel calm and supported throughout the process.
