The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge has begun, and Wales Street Primary School students have the chance to participate.
The theme in 2026 is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell’.
We want you to explore books that you might not have read before and discover just how fun stories can be to read or tell.
Foundation to grade 2 students will automatically be registered by the school, as we will set a goal to read 30 picture story books to them during class time before the beginning of September when the Challenge ends. Parents are welcome to add to this list, as I will provide each student in the lower school with their User id and password. There are always a couple of students who read well over 100 books. Please don’t add take home readers to these lists.
Grade 3 to 6 students can write their name down in the VPRC book in the Library and I will register them and confirm that they know how to log into their VPRC dashboard to list all the books they have read.
Until the administration work is complete, start recording the book titles that your children have read or had read to them, and they can be added to their dashboard.
And a note to parents and carers…During students’ last Library class for the term, they have the option to borrow up to twice as many books as usual. It is up to them, but I ask them to consider just how many they need to get them through the holidays and only borrow what they need.
