Principal's Report

Open Mornings

Last Thursday we had the first of 2 Open Days and had prospective families visit to take a tour.  We had quite a few families take the opportunity to see the school in action.

Whilst Nicole and I sat down and had a chat with those that came through, it was our grade 6s from the Transition Team that took visitors for a tour.  They did an excellent job, and our guests spoke highly of their work.  This coming Friday we have our second Open Morning.

Whilst Open Days present a good opportunity for prospective families to visit, we are open to tours at any stage of the year and expect our Transition Team members will continue to be busy over the coming few months.

School Council Elections

The School Council election process is now complete, meaning we can now announce membership for this year.

·    Parent Representatives – Parent representation on School Council for this year will consist of Graeme Benn, Kylie Bickerdike, Vanessa Munro, Kelly Dalby, Vanessa Vagg, Hayley Clarke, Jacinda Saunders, Jonathon Everard and Charlotte Cannan. We welcome Charlotte, Jonathon and Jacinda for their first stint on School Council and are delighted to have Kylie re-nominate for a new term.  Graeme, Vanessa M, Vanessa V and Kelly have another year to run on their current term.

·    DET (Department of Education & Training) Representatives – Department representation on School Council for this year will consist of Nicole Phillips, Narelle Sullivan, Ana Anderson, Jarrod Morgan and myself.

Our thanks go to School Council members finishing up, those being Kartya de Graff, Debbie Rybicki and James Jess.  We thank each for the contribution they have made.

On Monday March 23 we have our AGM and the March meeting, which will be the first meetings for our new School Councillors.

2026 School Concert

As most would be aware we have a concert to look forward to later in the year (August 26-28).  The concert is a fabulous experience for the kids, but also a brilliant school and community event.  Pulling off a successful concert is a team effort and presents as an opportunity for interested parents to get on board and help out in a variety of ways.

This might involve making costumes, working with your child’s teacher to develop or choreograph acts or supporting practice sessions.  On concert days, we’ll have quite a few parents doing a range of things, including helping to supervise students, taking tickets at the door, guiding patrons or helping back of stage.

At this early stage we’re putting the call out for parents that might be interested in being part of our organising committee.  That group is made up of staff and parents (usually about 6-8 members) that will come together regularly during the second half of term 2 and early term 3 to coordinate the event.  If you are interested in being part of this group, please get in touch.  The first job for this team will be to select a concert theme.

For those that are new to our school, attached are a few photos from the 2024 concert to give you a sense of the occasion.

Buninyong Sustainability and Smart Living Expo

A big thank you to the students and staff who supported our involvement in the Sustainability and Smart Living Expo at Royal Park last Sunday. We are incredibly proud of the way our students represented Buninyong Primary School with confidence, enthusiasm and genuine care for our environment.

Thank you to the teachers who assisted on the day and in the lead up to the event.

The Expo is a wonderful community event and a fantastic opportunity for our school to connect with local families and organisations. It allows us to showcase the strong sustainability programs we offer, including Ready Set Grow and our Energy Breakthrough program, and to share the learning our students are so passionate about.
