Spotlight on Learning

Eucalyptus

In Year 4, we have been learning about persuasive writing in our English unit. Students have been revising the structure and features of a persuasive text, such as high modality words, emotive language, and rhetorical questions. They have become more confident using the PEEL paragraphing structure:

P = point (reason)

E = explanation of point

E = example

L = link back to the point.

Students have applied this knowledge to write a persuasive text about the benefits of sailing, which is related to our core text - Kensuke's Kingdom. This novel tells the tale of a young boy who is stranded on an island and learns to survive with the help of an elderly man, Kensuke. Students have highly enjoyed reading this novel together and have developed their understanding of persuasive writing. Our next steps are to edit and publish our writing.
