ThroughFoundation
Over the last few weeks in Foundation we've been busy learning how to write letters and numbers using a variety of fun strategies. Our favourites are using shaving cream, sand and whiteboards to practise correct letter and number formation. This week we've been focusing on writing the letter 'S', much to the delight of our 'S' experts - Syon, Samuel and Sophia! We've been practising using our whiteboards appropriately on the floor and the children have been doing such a wonderful job learning all the new whiteboard terminology like 'park it', 'chin it' and 'bin it'. Your children will be able to explain what that all means! You'd never be able to guess they've been at school for less than a term, they seem like they've been here for years! Well done, Foundation. Have a great weekend everyone.
Year 1
Hi Families,
We’ve had another wonderful week of learning, and I thought I’d share what a typical Maths lesson looks like in our classroom along with some photos!
Our Maths sessions are structured to support both skill development and engagement:
- Daily Review – A short and focused recap of concepts we have learned since the beginning of the year.
- Tools Session – Hands-on learning using concrete materials such as dice, cards, games (like Snakes and Ladders), base-10 blocks, and even movement activities. These vary depending on our current Maths focus.
- Learning Intention – We discuss what we are learning and why it is important.
- Explicit Teaching & Practice – Students explore the current unit, supported by concrete materials to deepen understanding.
- Reflection – We come together to discuss what we learned and celebrate our thinking.
Please enjoy the photos below, which showcase our engaging “Tools Session” in action!
Have a wonderful weekend 😊
Year 2
Hello Families
Celebrations. We had a wonderful week celebrating St.Patrick's day, making wishes and promises , looking for Leprechauns, pots of gold and rainbows! We learned about the story of St.Patrick and his kindness towards everyone around him and his faith teachings. Then we got to lead assembly with Year 1, with such amazing Gruffalo's sharing their Lenten prayer, role playing how to make promises and showing off singing and dance skills along with their brain break song. Thank you families for attending our assembly. Learning ahead - In the coming weeks Year 2 will be busy learning about persuasive writing - Is it better to have dogs or cats as pets, why? For Maths, we will dive more into learning about number value, addition and subtraction problems.
Year 3/4 and Year 3/4AL
Library Sessions
Each Thursday, we are fortunate to spend time in our beautiful school library. The students genuinely value this space and enjoy browsing a variety of texts; from informative books linked to our Inquiry unit to engaging narratives and chapter books.
It has been lovely to see students recommending books to one another, reading side by side and sharing texts aloud. These sessions support not only their research skills, their writing skills for their Narrative Writing, but also foster a love of reading and a sense of shared enjoyment around books. We are very lucky to have such a rich and welcoming space to support our learning.
Inquiry
After investigating a variety of body systems this term, students have now selected a system they would like to explore further and present in a poster or booklet format.
They are practising referring back to the project criteria when organising their research. We look forward to seeing the finished result and hearing them share their learning.
Organising a game of tag, followed by hide and seek, made for lots of smiles and laughs in the yard at recess.
Year 5/6 J
This week in 5/6J we unpacked some of the big wonderings and questions surrounding the meaning and purpose of Lent. In small groups, students had the opportunity to research and collaborate in finding some answers/explanations of selected questions, and show their understandings in an artistic way. We are so lucky to have many great artists in our grade that always produce incredible pieces of work. Take a look!
Year 5/6 M
During Term 1, Grade 5/6 M have been reading 'War Horse'. It is a story based around wartime. It is story of courage, saddness, struggle and battle. It can also be uplifting at different times.
Chloe:
'What was interesting to me, so far, is that Joey, the war horse tells the story through his eyes instead of the soldier. The story is really interesting and when I read my part and a person is really feeling an emotion, I feel it too!
The story is full of emotion.
Kaone:
'I think the book will have a happy ending and that is my prediction. I think and hope, that Joey will go back to Albert on the farm back in Australia. I predict the war ends with peace and happiness'.
Martin:
I think the book is going to finish in a sad moment maybe Joey might die in the war and that it is going to be really sad. Just like when his friend, Topthorne, the other war horse died in battle. It was really sad. It's not always a happy ending during wartime'
