YEAR 2

FROM THE TEAM

We have had a wonderful week in Year 2 this week. The students have done a wonderful job this past week learning our new Talk 4 Write text and have been working hard to learn it by heart. In Maths, students have been exploring addition and subtraction. They have been using hands-on activities to practice counting on, counting back, and solving number problems while building their confidence with numbers.

This month there are lots of events and things to look forward to. In week 8 we have Harmony day celebrations on Friday the 20th as well as World Storytelling day. If you need some new stories for Storytelling day, you are in luck! The book fair is also happening this week from the 19th – 29th March.

LEARNING INTENTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK

LITERACY

In Reading, our Year 2 students are exploring the mentor text Traction Man. While reading this text, students have been learning new and interesting vocabulary. We have also been working on our comprehension skills by identifying the main idea and practicing how to summarize what we have read.

In Writing, we will be continuing to learn our new talk for write text Local Woodcutter Wins Through and will be getting started with learning our new toolkits.

MATHS

We are learning to use different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. We will start to use some of these strategies to help us solve worded problems this week. 

INQUIRY

We are learning to explore our family traditions and celebrations as well as others traditions and celebrations. 

WELLBEING

We are learning to identify our own personal strengths and describe some actions that make us feel proud.

Something to work on...

Shoelaces

Many of our children have laces on their shoes this year. Please work with your children to help them be independent when tying their own laces! 

Home Reading

Home readers should now be coming home nightly. We encourage all students to bring their reader bags and diaries each day to school. Please encourage your child to do the book entries on their own. Where it says ‘homework’, we kindly ask that they write their nights of reading so we can celebrate their success!

Labelling

A reminder to please ensure that hats, jumpers, jackets, drink bottles and lunch boxes are all clearly named. Items that are named are far more likely to be returned to you. 

Inquiry Homework

If your child has brought home a family questionnaire to help with our Inquiry Unit, can you please ensure it is completed and returned to school as soon as possible.

Tissue Boxes

As the weather starts to get colder, we see an increase in students starting to get the sniffles and sneezes. To assist in keeping our germs to ourselves, we kindly ask for families to donate a box of tissues for the classroom. Thank you for helping keep our classrooms as germ free as possible.
