PREP

FROM THE TEAM
This week in Prep, our classroom has been full of wonderful learning and excitement!
In Investigations, students shared the different celebrations and traditions their families take part in. They talked about special events such as birthdays, holidays and family gatherings, and explained what makes these occasions important to them. Sharing these experiences helped students learn about each other and celebrate the diversity of traditions in our classroom community.
In Phonics, students explored the /n/ and /o/ sounds through a variety of reading, writing and speaking activities. They enjoyed searching for these sounds in different words and practiced identifying the beginning sounds when writing. Students also worked on building and writing simple CVC words, which are important early reading patterns that help students connect sounds to letters.
In Maths, we explored counting numbers to ten using one-to-one counting. Students practised touching and counting objects one at a time to match each number with one item. Students enjoyed using hands-on materials and games to practise counting carefully to 10.
During Wellbeing, we revisited how to do a Zones Check-In independently or with others. Students practised identifying how they were feeling by choosing the zone that matched their emotions and discussing strategies that could help them regulate their feelings.
In Reading, students explored the different parts of a book, including the front cover, title, and author. They practised recognising these features and discussed how they help readers learn about a story before reading. Students also enjoyed retelling stories in their own words, helping to build their understanding and confidence as readers.
During Writing, Prep students have been exploring a new Talk for Writing text The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Through this engaging story, students are learning to retell the sequence of events while building their vocabulary and understanding how the hungry caterpillar grows and transforms into a butterfly. It has been a wonderful week of learning and growth in Prep!
