Spanish Sub-Committee

2025 marked a very special year for the Spanish Sub-committee, as we were invited to be part of the School Council. There was no doubt of the clear desire among Spanish speaking families in our community to have representation in it. ¡Gracias Luke and Adam! We believe that the influence of the Spanish and Latin American cultures and the bilingual nature of the school is now more visible throughout our Newlands community.

The Fete this year was an excellent opportunity to externally showcase our bilingual school. How amazing were all the colours, the music, the ofrenda, and the delicious cuisine! 

We think that the work of the Spanish sub-committee is now more visible throughout the school. I am very proud of our team’s hard work all year. 

We want to thank Claire and the PFA for their support in all activities promoting Spanish-speaking cultures. Welcoming more Spanish-speaking families to the PFA had strengthen our community.  

Gracias, to all the families who participated in the Spanish Club every Monday and the volunteer parents who organised the fun activities; to all who took one hour of their morning to attend the four cultural morning teas; to those who dust off their dancing shoes and accepted the challenge to learn Cuban and Colombian salsa en español; to all who attended the Spanish movie ‘Babies don’t come with instructions’ and went home broken-hearted, ¡lo sentimos!; and to the amazing Mexican parents who set up the Ofrenda del Dia de Muertos at Fed Square to promote our school. 

What a great year!
