Ash Wednesday

This week our College community gathered in our Houses to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Church’s season of Lent.
Through prayer, fasting and almsgiving, Lent invites us to prepare our hearts for Easter, when we reflect on the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Prayer draws us closer to God and strengthens our commitment to live justly. Fasting unites us in solidarity with those who go without the basic necessities of life. Almsgiving expresses our gratitude for the blessings we have received and our responsibility to serve others in justice and love.
Our student leaders reverently brought forward symbols of Lent for our prayer focus, including the cross, the crown of thorns, purple cloth, ashes, a candle and the Bible.
Students and staff then received ashes on their foreheads as a public sign of faith and repentance.
Throughout the liturgy, students reflected on the Gospel, prayed together as a community, and learnt about Project Compassion and its work in supporting communities in need.
