Learning News - Term 1, Week 1-2

K/1

It has been a wonderful start to the year as our Kindergarten and Year 1 students settle into their new routines! We kicked things off by exploring what we packed for our first day and have jumped straight into mastering our fine motor skills through playdough, creative artworks and learning to correctly form letters and numbers. In the classroom, students are already busy counting and integrating technology with our iPads to enhance their learning. Most importantly, we have focused on being "bucket fillers" and kind friends while setting exciting personal goals we hope to achieve this year. Look how clever we are!

2/3C

We have had a fantastic week diving into the world of 2D shapes and getting creative with our very own "Shape Monsters." Our young mathematicians have been busy identifying and comparing polygons based on their unique attributes, such as sides, vertices and angles.

Through hands-on activities like using geoboards and classifying quadrilaterals, the students are discovering that shapes are defined by their properties—like side length and number of corners—no matter how you turn or flip them! We’ve especially enjoyed the challenge of proving why a square is actually a "special" type of rectangle and rhombus.

2/3M

It has been a wonderful start to the new school year, and I am so impressed with how beautifully 2/3 M have settled in and established strong daily routines.

We have hit the ground running with our learning; in English, students have been playing with language and sharpening their writing skills by exploring the catchy world of alliteration

In Maths, we have been getting creative with geometry by designing colorful 2D shape monsters and playing "detective" to find lines of symmetry—the "magic mirror" lines that show where a shape can be folded perfectly in half.

There is a fantastic energy in the room, and we are all looking forward to a fun-filled year of learning!

Year 4

We are quickly settling into Year 4 and are looking forward to a great year of learning. Our classroom is looking bright and cheery and we are quickly learning new routines. This fortnight we have focused on rights and responsibilities and our school rules which forms the introductory part of our new unit Living the Law of Love.

Amazing Animals by Jennifer Cossins has provided us with lots of interesting discussions, reading and writing activities. We are enjoying learning about the author’ passion for Australian animals and environment and using her writing and artworks to do good.

Reading and creating maps have been a central focus for us in Maths as we learn about position.

We look forward to the year ahead and lots of great learning opportunities.

5/6

What a Fantastic Week Back! Children in Year 5 / 6 dove straight back into their learning, setting the high bar for a successful year!

This week, we have started our first text Tree by Claire Saxby, a journey of wonder and discovery, exploring life in and around a mighty Mountain Ash.  Using this book as our inspiration, year 5 / 6 have been sharpening their linguistic tools with crafting the perfect paragraph. We’ve been understanding the power of precise nouns and vivid verbs to bring out descriptions of the natural world to life.

With such a focused and enthusiastic start, we look forward to a year of growth, curiosity and brilliance within the classroom!
