Assistant Principal Update

Welcome back to all of our families continuing their learning journey with MEPS in 2026. The school has been buzzing over the past week as students excitedly reconnected with their friends and bravely started taking on the challenges of joining a new year level. We have also been lucky enough to welcome a number of new families and students to our learning community to start the year. We hope you have started to settle in well and are looking forward to getting to know you better. To quote the wisdom of one of our Year 6s when asked about tips for anyone new "be kind, ask questions and if you want to join in, say something, because at this school people will let you".

High Expectations- respect and responsibility

Across our school, staff have engaged students in conversation about our whole school expectations that reinforce our school values of respect and responsibility. These conversations have guided the formation of class essential agreements with students about which actions and attitudes will promote positive behaviour and connectedness in our learning and play. A full list of MEPS whole school expectations can be found below.

Digital Citizenship- Inform and Empower

At Mt Eliza Primary we actively educate for the promotion of safe and appropriate use of digital technologies at school and home while teaching valuable ICT skills and knowledge. We are guided by department recommendations regarding limitations to screen time to foster connectedness between our students and promote responsible, balanced usage of technology. We will be working closely this year with Inform and Empower to enhance our wellbeing curriculum and further explore topics including healthy digital habits, digital citizenship and literacy, online safety and security and cyberbullying. Please look for further information to be published on Compass regarding an online parent information session about Raising Kids in a Digital World scheduled for Wednesday March 4th at 7:30pm.

To start our digital citizenship and wellbeing learning year with students, all classes will be learning about Safer Internet Day, Tuesday Feb 10th. During the week, every year level will take time to focus on how to use technology safely at school and home. A focus on safe internet usage will further complement our school wide discussions about ICT user agreements and the responsibilities that students have in using technology to contribute to and create a safe and friendly online environment. Students will also participate this term in a class incursion provided by Enform and Empower to further enhance thier digital literacy and skills.

We are looking forward to providing a variety of learning experiences over the year to assist our students in successfully navigating and thriving in a digital world.
