BiG Day in Perth 2026
On Thursday 18 June, Year 12 Computer Science ATAR and Certificate III Information Technology students attended BiG Day In Perth at The University of Western Australia.
The event gave students a direct look at where a future in technology could take them. Across the day, they heard from professionals working in software development, cybersecurity, defence, transport, national security, user experience, and digital innovation.
Speakers represented organisations including Microsoft, WiseTech Global, the Public Transport Authority of WA, Rocket Software, the Australian Defence Force, the Australian Signals Directorate and Tata Consultancy Services.
Students also explored the exhibitor area and spoke with representatives from ACS, ACSF, Alcoa, BHP, City of Swan Futures Lab, Curtin University, ADF Careers, Diversus, Edith Cowan University, Mentor It Forward, Microsoft, the Public Transport Authority of WA, Rocket Software, TAFE WA, UWA, WiseTech Global and Visagio.
These conversations gave students the chance to ask questions about university, TAFE, traineeships, direct-entry programs and careers they may not previously have considered.
Yuuri reflected:
“I got to speak with people in industry and individuals currently studying in university, and also learnt more about different career pathways that I may have not considered before going to this excursion. Overall, I feel more confident in choosing what pathway I want to take beyond high school!”
Leo said:
“I had an amazing opportunity and I was privileged to meet some incredible people while learning more about some companies. I am so glad that I attended this event.”
Ryan also highlighted another benefit of the day:
“The free merch was pretty cool”
Students represented the College exceptionally well, showing curiosity and enthusiasm as they engaged with presenters and exhibitors. BiG Day In provided a valuable glimpse into the wide range of opportunities available beyond Year 12.
