The Canaanite woman debates with Jesus and saves her daughter
In yesterday's Gospel, a Canaanite woman approaches Jesus and asks Him to heal her daughter. Although she is not part of the Jewish community, she shows great faith, courage and persistence. Jesus recognises her faith and heals her daughter.
This Gospel reminds us that God’s love is for everyone. Like the Canaanite woman, we are encouraged to trust in God, even when things are difficult, and to never give up hope. At St Liborius, we live this message by welcoming others, showing kindness and recognising that every person is valued and loved by God.
REFLECTION PRAYER
Loving God, We thank You for the example of the Canaanite woman,
whose faith was strong and whose love never gave up.
Help us to have the courage to keep praying when things are difficult and when we feel discouraged. Teach us to trust in Your love, even when we cannot see the answer.
Open our hearts to recognise that everyone is valued and loved by You.
Help us at St Liborius to welcome others, to listen with kindness, to include those who may feel left out, and to show compassion to those in need.
May we have faith that is strong, hearts that are generous,
and the courage to never give up hope.
Lord Jesus, strengthen our faith and help us to share
Your love with everyone we meet.
Amen.
THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY
On Friday, our St Liborius community gathered in the Liborius Centre to celebrate Mass for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This important feast, celebrated on 15 August, reminds us that Mary was taken body and soul into the glory of Heaven at the end of her earthly life. The Assumption celebrates Mary’s close relationship with Jesus and is a sign of hope for all Christians.
Our Mass was an opportunity to reflect on Mary’s example of faith, humility, courage and love. Mary said “yes” to God and trusted Him throughout her life. She cared for Jesus, remained faithful during times of difficulty and always sought to follow God’s plan. Mary’s faith was at the heart of her life and she is an example for us on our own journey of faith.
As a St Liborius community, the Feast of the Assumption invites us to ask ourselves: How can we be more like Mary? We can follow her example by saying “yes” to opportunities to help others, showing kindness and compassion, listening to those who need support, welcoming everyone and trusting God even when things are challenging.
May Mary inspire us to live with faith, hope and love, and to bring God’s light and kindness into our school and our wider community.

TERM 3 STUDENT AWARDS
At St Liborius, we celebrate students who demonstrate the characteristics of our founders. These awards are not just about what students do, but also about who they are and how they treat others.
We are guided by our founders: Catherine McAuley, Mary MacKillop, and St Francis of Assisi, along with Henry Backhaus who helped build our local Catholic community. They showed kindness, courage, and care for others, and we try to follow their example every day at school.
