USING VOICES ROUTINE

Last week, we introduced and practised our classroom voice levels to help create a respectful and productive learning environment.

Students learnt that different learning activities require different types of voices:

• Silent voice – used during independent work for thinking and focusing.
• Partner voice – used when working with one other person, speaking quietly so only their partner can hear.
• Group voice – used during small group activities, loud enough for the group to hear but not others.
• Class voice – used when speaking to the whole class, with a clear and confident voice.

Students had opportunities to practise each voice level and discuss when it is appropriate to use them. We also talked about what a positive learning classroom sounds like—where voices match the task, everyone is respectful, and all students can learn without distraction.

These expectations will continue to be reinforced throughout the year to support positive learning habits and effective communication.
